Mysteries behind perfumes
Friday, August 8, 2008

Perfume may be defined as a blend of fragrant oils and aroma compounds and solvents that when applied permits the human body to spread a pleasant smell to allure all those around. In earlier times only royal ladies and elite females used to wear perfumes and that too, to entice their male companions. Modern women use different types of perfumes for different occasions. There are a variety of women's perfumes - less intoxicating one for day time use, to set the right mood for evening use, and sex teasers for bedtime use. There are also women perfumes for different moods like romance and lovemaking. Women perfumes are distinctly different from colognes used by men in terms of ingredients used and their characteristics. In women's perfumes oils are used as a chief ingredient whereas in men's perfumes alcohol is the basic component.

Perfumes are no doubt heady but people who regularly use perfumes have a passion for perfumes. But there are certain types of perfumes that applying even a single drop makes you look good and feel important. Smell is the sense most powerfully linked to memory, but equally powerful are the stories behind the creation of some of today's most celebrated scents. If you are keen to know all about the mysteries of perfumes, then ask the experts and they will tell how to choose the right perfume, explain difference between synthetic and natural aroma, and give answers to the most questions about perfumes that have bedeviled you for long.

There are people who complain that traditional perfumes do not satisfy them. You will quite often find that there are no right perfumes or wrong perfumes as all perfumes are a matter of personal taste and personal preference. Consider your own aroma and buy it and you need not be unduly obsessed whether others buy the same perfume or not. There are a lot of superstitious people who buy perfumes that are associated with their birth sign of the zodiac or based on some strange and interesting information they have about a particular perfume.

The mystery behind perfumes generally creates curiosity among perfume lovers because the ingredients are not listed on the bottle label of perfume. That is because there is no law mandating manufacturers to spell out the names of chemicals used. Fragrance manufactures refuse to divulge as they claim they would be disclosing their trade secrets. Since there's no list, there is no regulation or monitoring of the contents either. In 1988, the law banned the use of methylene chloride, but due to trade secret laws, there was no enforcement. When inhaled, this chemical brought a long list of health problems including headache, giddiness, stupor, and tingling in the limbs. One wonders whether this could be the mystery behind fragrances that perfume companies like to call natural pheromones. When you run into someone and all of a sudden find yourself mesmerized by his overpowering sweet smell, are you actually showing the side-effects of toxic chemicals?

During the year 1999 a petition was made by the Environmental Health Network of California to the FDA to withdraw Eternity made by Calvin Klein fragrance from the market for causing adverse health effects. Over 700 people sent in complaints claiming the perfume significantly affected their health. The FDA is yet to address this issue and Eternity is still available at every department store. This has emboldened perfume makers to rigidly refuse to share their perfume ingredients. It is believed that most popular perfumes, lotions and shampoo contain two narcotics - ethyl acetate and linalool. You will know from the EPA Hazardous Waste List, these two cause respiratory disorders, sluggish heart activity, less spontaneous motor responses, dizziness and stupor. Even several nervous disorders like multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome are linked to many popular fragrances.

It is widely acknowledged and no longer a secret that perfumes influence our mood, thinking and even our health. Discover the secret of improving your health with the help of perfumes and learn the secret art of enticing the opposite sex using perfumes with pheromones and aphrodisiacs. If you dream about shedding weight, there are perfumes available and you can choose perfumes that diminish appetite. Perfumes with pheromones are said to have the property of arousing the sexual instinct of the member of opposite sex. What is the secret behind the pheromones? Pheromones were first discovered in animals and in lower forms of life. Sexual pheromone was actively exploited by perfume and cosmetic industry and most manufacturers use enormous amounts of pheromones for making cosmetology and perfumery. Perfumes with excess pheromones are found in such brands as "Love Collection", "Desire Collection", "Sexy Line", "Desire" etc. They are strong, aromatic compositions, known to everyone, as pheromones but they practically cause no side-effects or allergy. The effect of perfumes with pheromones mean more furtive glances and smiles from unknown or less known people, acquaintances and friends. It enriches your sex appeal and boosts self-confidence. Love and sex experience will become more intimate, strong, and provocatively passionate.

Celia Lyttelton decided to have a scent created exclusively for her. So she undertook an adventurous journey that took her across the world, investigating the origins, history and culture of many fascinating exotic ingredients for making her perfume. When Celia Lyttelton spoke to professional perfumers to have a scent created specially for her, she was sent from London square to a place of exotic oils and essences. Curious to trace the origins, history and culture of the many ingredients that made up her unique perfume, Celia embarked upon a journey that took her to France to Morocco; from the rose-growing region of Isparta in Turkey, to the Tuscan hills where the iris grows wild. She further traveled to India and Sri Lanka, the home of the heavenly scented jasmine. Celia ventured to the Yemen and Socotra, called the 'Island of Bliss'. The story goes that here she traced the most mysterious agent in perfumery, ambergris, in the bellies of whales and ambergris is said to have powerful aphrodisiac qualities.

Opium costs more than many other scents. Sometimes you can get a good price for bottles that were used a bit but returned to the stores presumably because the original buyers disliked the aroma. Opium is a sort of a warm exotic scent with no real comparisons and the strength and weakness of Opium is it has a love-hate relationship with users.

Mitsouko is yet another unique perfume that speaks an unusually silent and subtle language that can be heard only by your chosen few. The initial impact is a clean, yet rich and intense scent, with lavender and orris elements that fade away quickly. The texture is more of an under-ripe peach skin and very velvety to the touch. This unique and lovely peach accord is subtly backed up by a jasmine fragrance and other earthy spices which remain a mystery. Mitsouko provides a feeling of floating in mid air and forgetting oneself. Mitsouko brings to mind a wild desert wind, while at the same time acts in a most refined and cultural manner.

Selah Women's Fragrance, from Jerusalem, is a brand that sells on the word Selah, which in Hebrew means "forever." The untold secret of this perfume is it is a mixture of essential oils and spices derived from fragrant powders uncovered alongside the Dead Sea Scrolls

There are women who want to smell different. They want to smell good but totally different from every other single woman in the room. That is the secret why they keep coming back to Opium by Yves St. Laurent. That is because this perfume smells great and its secret is it is not just the garden-variety flat scent like most other perfumes.

There is an aura of mystery that surrounds the Indian perfume known as Heena. This is a rich and intensely oriental fragrance much prized in India and the Middle East but almost unknown in the West. This a red paste produced by grinding the leaves of the plant, Lawsonia inermis, which is commonly called Heena in the East. This red paste is used to decorate and adorn the hands and feet of women during religious festivals and marriages and it is also used to color the hair of both for men and women.

The internationally famous Mystery Perfume, by Naomi Campbell, is a sexy teaser which was launched in 2003. This is a refined, elegant aroma that soon turns into a fruity fragrance - a sensuous blend of fruits, flowers, with hints of amber and tonka bean. Mystery Perfume is alluring and the perfect perfume for a late evening or night out. A perfume for a woman naturally contains secrets. The sensual, intensely feminine yet puzzling elements of Naomi Campbell's personality are captured by the heady scent of Mystery. Created by French perfumer Olivier Cresp, the perfume is an intriguing blend of exotic oriental tones and compounded by deep and voluptuous aromas.

Shalimar Black Mystery Perfume for Women comes in 2.5 oz Eau De Parfum Spray and its eastern exquisite delight, remains eternal and its secret myth reinvents itself every time you use it. In a limited edition for the parties, it reveals the mysterious facet of arresting the attention of guests and drawing them to your side.

While speaking about the mystery behind perfumes, we should also refer to the secret behind using perfumes. Even some perfume addicts spray the perfume on their sweaty bodies which creates a sense of nausea rather than any pleasant aroma. You must have a complete shower and then dry yourself and then apply the scent for it produce the right effect. Close the bottle lid tightly every time you use the scent as any undue exposure of the perfume to open air will reduce its efficacy.
