There are hundreds of fragrances available in the market and you will be confronted with too wide a choice before you can decide on the perfume suitable for you.

The right perfume must be in keeping with your taste, blend well with your personality and be appropriate for the occasion and not too annoying for those whom you come into contact.
The price range of perfumes is rather wide - from several inexpensive ones to a few prohibitively costly ones that many people cannot afford. So before deciding which perfume would be the right one for you, you should be clear in your mind how much you are willing to spend.
The next thing would be to ponder over the purpose for which you wish to buy the perfume. If it is to draw your lover closer to you, then it should be strong and preferably of a fragrance your lover would like. But you should be discreet when using strong perfumes if you are attending a social gathering as quite a few people are uncomfortable with strong perfumes and develop headaches. Perhaps an inexpensive and a light perfume should be the right one for day-to-day use to office or workplace. There are special blends of perfume available if you want to highlight your masculinity and macho image.
You should also take into consideration the weather while deciding the right perfume. Scents with Citrus and floral fragrances are often rejuvenating and helps to keep you refreshed day long.
Citrus is a general term and genus of flowering plants in the family. Rutaceae, originating in stifling and subtropical Southeast Asia. The word citrus is derived from the Ancient Greek kedros or its Latin derivate cedrus, names applied by the ancient Greeks and Romans to a number of different trees with aromatic foliage or wood.
The Floral Fragrance relations are by far the biggest and most all-encompassing.
Floral notes are initiate in all fragrances, men's
and women's alike, and the family includes fragrances
that are green, fresh, fruity, amber-y and of
course, flowery floral perfumes. Although a few
floral
fragrances are reminiscent of a single flower
or a bouquet, others only have floral impressions.
The Word of Perfume could not survive without
the fullness and body that floral notes provide.

The Fragrance wheel is a relatively new classification method that is widely used in retail and in the fragrance industry. The method was created in 1983 by Michael Edwards, a consultant in the perfume industry, who designed his own scheme of fragrance classification.

The new scheme was created in order to simplify fragrance classification and naming scheme, as well as to show the relationships between each of the individual classes.
The five standard families consist of Floral, Oriental, Woody, Fougère, and Fresh, with the former four families being more "classic" while the latter consisting of newer bright and clean smelling citrus and oceanic fragrances that have arrived due to improvements in fragrance technology. With the omission of the Fougere family, each of the families are in turn divided into sub-groups and arranged around a wheel.
You should be guarded while purchasing the perfumes. Avoid buying perfumes immediately after they are launched till you are able to get proper feedback and the scent really appeals to you. There are occasions when the sales person will offer to apply the perfume on his or her own skin and let you smell it. Never agree to this type of testing a perfume as the skin of each one of us reacts to perfumes differently. Make sure the perfume you ultimately buy is the right one for you by putting it on your own skin. Allow a few minutes because fragrances generally take time to grow on you and may even smell differently after a while.
Please remember that smelling a perfume can be a tricky business. Quite often the smell a bottled perfume emanates can be totally different when applied on your wrist. This is because perfumes react differently with different body chemicals. So, buy a perfume that is not only pleasing to your nose when you open the bottle, but also pleasing when it contacts your skin.
The manufacturers of perfumes also try out various sales gimmicks to market their products. A gimmick is a unique or peculiar special feature that makes something "stands out" from its social group. However, the special feature is naturally thought to be of little significance or use. Thus, a gimmick is an extraordinary feature for the sake of having a special feature. Finding a successful gimmick for an otherwise ordinary product is often an important part of the marketing development.
Packaging the scent in fabulously designed bottles
is one of them. Never be Never be so naive when
you purchase attractive
perfume bottles. The contents may be totally
disappointing and may not favorably react on your
skin.
It may at times be advisable to initially try out a sample before buying particularly expensive scents. Of course, it is quite often said that a scent is worth the pleasure it gives you and those around you and not the money you spend. Avoid buying scents online unless you are familiar with a particular perfume. Otherwise, you may buy the wrong perfume based on what the web says and without testing the product.
