Perfume is an aromatic liquid that is worn on the skin to impart a pleasurable odor. Formerly it is intended to disguise unpleasant body odors, but today it is worn to attract the opposite sex, or to make an individual statement, or simply to please the wearer. Perfume is either made up of animal or plant-based aromatic compounds that are dissolved in a blend of both alcohol and water. The quantity of scented matter to the solvent determines whether the blend is a fragrance or cologne. The aromatic part can be botanical essential oils, animal musk oils, or nowadays, artificial scents derived from various chemicals. Eau du Cologne and toilet water are the very lightly scented products. Originally, Eau du Cologne is referred to a particular citrus-floral blend made in Cologne, Germany, which had a lighter odour and could be applied more liberally. Another type is perfume oil. They are similar to perfumes, with the exemption that the solvent is oil-based than alcohol-based. Most of the consumers are more familiar with eau du parfum that is 15-30% aromatics.
